Financial foresight
A multibillion dollar leveraged buyout (LBO) firm
needed a way to insure that its portfolio companies were looking
far enough ahead for potential "bumps in the road" that
might negatively impact business performance and shareholder value.
Typically, portfolio firms operate independently. Financial reporting
to management is most often historic measuring what happened
last month or last quarter. Lacking data that predicts future performance,
LBO partners encountered major surprises from time-to-time. In an
attempt to be forewarned and better prepared to discuss company
performance, LIS Organizational Scans of employees and key customers
are deployed in selected portfolio companies. Results from these
scans serve as leading indicators of strengths, weaknesses, and
potential problems. By identifying and acting on issues before they
negatively impact performance and financials, unpleasant surprises
are minimized while growth and profitability are enhanced. Broader
deployment of assessment tools is now being considered.
